Skee Ball

The first arcade i'm going to be discussing is technically not a video game but it is a machine that paved the way for arcades and video arcade games.  This was Skee Ball.

The first Skee Ball machine was invented by J.D. Estes in Philadelphia 1909. in 1914 the first Skee Ball alleys were sold to an amusement company, the alleys were very large measuring at 36 feet long which would mean they would not be suitable to have multiple alleys in a building because it would take up a lot of room. In 1929 the reduced the size of the alleys from 36 feet to 14 feet to free up room and allow more people to play the game.

If it wasn't for Skee Ball then we probably wouldn't have had arcades and people wouldn't have attempted to build different arcade games and that might not have led to the creation of video arcade games or even video games.
