The Development of Technology in Video Games
Nintendo Wii
The Nintendo Wii was released in 2006. It was revolutionary at the time because of the main feature being motion controls. It was so different from all of the other consoles at the time and it was marketed to the entire family. The Wii also made people look at video games in a new light as with the release of Wii Fit, It made people realized that video games and the Wii system could actually improve your health with the exercise you were doing when using the motion controls. The Wii is definitely one of Nintendo's most successful consoles of all time and revolutionized the industry. The Wii was very successful, so successful that Microsoft and Sony would then release their own motion control add ons for their own consoles. Microsoft released Kinect and Sony released PlayStation Move.As of March 31, 2016, the Wii has sold 101.63 million consoles worldwide Nintendo were so focused on the motion controls that the Wii console itself was only slightly more powerful than the Nintendo GameCube. The Wii's success caught third-party developers by surprise, leading to apologies for the quality of their early games. As some the early games for the console were really poor. Probably the most famous game for the Wii was Wii Sports and Wii Fit (even though it is not really considered a game). Some of the games for the Wii include Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Galaxy 2, The Legend Of Zelda Skyward Sword, Metroid Prime 3 Corruption, Super Smash Bros Brawl 6. Mario Kart WII, New Super Mario Bros WII ,Donkey Kong Country Returns, Kirby's Epic Yarn Xenoblade and many more.
